After dropping the Grammy-nominated Lune Rouge in 2017—followed by the successful Luna Rouge Remix album in 2018—the LA-based artist known as TOKiMONSTA has released another single and accompanying video. Directed by Sydney-based studio Babekühl, “Love That Never” features light, airy chords mixed with traditional Japanese koto licks over a slow, sexy soca beat.
Upon releasing the track, TOKiMONSTA (real name Jennifer Lee) tweeted the following: “Love is a beautiful sensation that fills us up, but can also leave us empty and bare. ‘Love That Never’ is a personal reminder that if we foster our own intangible love, we will always be fulfilled.”
Lee was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease in late 2015, and briefly lost her language and comprehension skills after two brain surgeries. It was during her recovery, where she had yet to fully re-grasp her musical comprehension, that she wrote what would become the Grammy-nominated Lune Rouge.
